I have started to dye my hair (to rid the grey and go a few shades lighter).
However, I try to live as natural as I can...and lets face it, hair dyeing is just not natural! I thought about henna before, but was a little nervous, as I have heard some horror stories.
I was just wondering if there is anyone out there who has used it, and whether or not it was worth it?
I also heard you can not use henna on already dyed hair. Is that true?
Has anyone successfully used hair henna? Yes, I have been using henna for a few months, and I LOVE IT! I spent months and months searching for a good natural looking red hair color from chemical dyes. After almost destroying my hair, I turned to henna. The beautiful thing about henna, is that is stains over natural hair color and reflects some of that color with the red. If you have a few grays, then you will most likely have highlights of bright red.
Be forewarned, if your are blond henna turns out very fiery and what some may consider harsh on light (blond) hair. If that is what you are going for, go for it. I have naturally dark hair, and it turns out a deep auburn/burgundy with the henna. Red not your thing? You can also combine it with indigo (another natural dye) to get black, brown, and darker red shades.
The best thing to do if you are unsure is to do a strand test by testing it on hair from you hair brush, or a short strand on your head that is normally hidden. Also, you may have to it apply several times to cover some of the more stubborn grays, from what I have read.
And yes, you can use PURE henna on dyed hair. Compound hennas (those with added chemicals/ metallic salts) may fry hair, or turn it green or black. Make sure you are using pure henna, usually Body Art Quality. I use Light Mountain Natural's red shade, which is a boxed herbal hair coloring kit, and it can be picked up from most health food stores as far as I know. Their red shade seems to be pure henna, as it reacted fine with my previously dyed hair. One test I found online is to take hair from a hair brush, and treat it with peroxide and ammonia, and if it fizzles/burns, turns black/green, or does not change the color at all, you have compound henna on your hands. The most important thing is to DO A STRAND TEST.
Overall, henna is most certainly worth it! It is a bit messy and time consuming (I need to keep mine on for 6 hours because I like a strong color), but it is well worth avoiding the potential health risks of commercial dyes, not destroying your hair (in fact, henna is a natural conditioner, strengthener, it makes hair thicker, and combats lice), and in many cases it is cheaper than chemical dyes. Almost seems too good to be true, doesn't it? Seriously, look into it, perhaps give it a try. I'm glad I did.

Has anyone successfully used hair henna? if you use clear, it will make your hair fuller - because it coats the hair shaft - on grey hair this translates often to "Bushy"
Its true that you cant use it on colored hair - it cuticle of the hair gets raised and its....well, its not a pretty sight.
Henna is well, um, not something that I would recommend to people with Natural hair either though....and on grey its especially horrible - the darker colors all turn out purple, and the lighter ones all turn out orange.
try Naturtint (yeah, its spelled that way) for a "more natural" color.
Or - I say be proud of them. I'm sure you earned every one. I know I did.

Has anyone successfully used hair henna? Used henna some years ago, it dried my hair terribly, and had an ugly, unnatural red tint as it faded. Are you sure it will cover gray? Absolutely do a patch test first. I like Loreal Excellence, but again patch test, maybe try one shade lighter than the the box you like, and follow the directions.

My mother is a regular henna user and she prefers it anytime to dyes because heena doesn't damages hairs and in fact enriches it and also looks more natural in my opinion.However some precautions should be taken.henna should be first applied to roots and then to the rest of hairs. Also since henna dries the hair,lot of oil should be used if u don't have oily hair.henna can be used on dyed hairs only when the effect of dye has gone.After applying henna,u can use dye but not on roots and also the dye will not last for long.Dry henna in the sun and don't blow dry it.However if u are short of time apply it on holidays.

If u have grey hair it turns brownish tint. IT CANNOT BE USED TO COLOR YOUR HAIR. It turns grey hair to a reddish tint.
It is very helpful to hair growth and it enhances the hair health.
I recommend it to use once in a week.
It is worth applying henna even if it is heavy to apply.
But you can find coloring henna in the market.
It is produced by mixing other additives to henna
and it is not 100% natural.
